The first call for proposals for the James Webb Space Telescope will open on January 23rd 2020, with an expected deadline on May 1st 2020. In order to prepare the community to the proposal submission process, we are organizing a workshop at the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris, on 24-25 Feb 2020, to allow future investigators to familiarize themselves with the capabilities of JWST instruments, proposal and planning tools.
The workshop is intented for the entire french community, covering all the thematics of our national programs. It is part of a series of workshops organized across Europe and coordinated by ESA. The workshop will provide an overview of the scientific landscape that will be addressed by JWST observations, with oral contributions from experts in the community. In addition to general presentations focused on the mission status, documentation and instruments functionalities, ample time will be dedicated to hands-on sessions. Each session will consist of guided demonstrations and exercises to plan observations with selected science cases and observing modes. At the end of the workshop, participants should be ready to plan, write and submit proposals for the GO Cycle 1 call.
