The Sun would appear to be a star like any other. As far as we know, however, it is the only star which has given birth to a planet on which life is possible. But is our Sun unique or are they all the same?
In this video, the astrophysicist Vincent Minier describes the main characteristics of the Sun by comparison with other stars. This video will enable you to understand and describe these differences.
For more information: With regard to the structure of the Sun, we recommend the Observations Solaires website managed by the Paris Observatory, or the web documentary produced by CEA: “L’Odyssée de la Lumière” (the Odyssey of Light).
At its great age of 4.6 billion years, the Sun is only about half-way through its life. Find out how it could end, using the example of star L2 Pup studied by a team from the Paris Observatory. You can also admire the Sun at various scales and different wavelengths using the observations from the SoHo satellite.
